Brownie Circle Songs

Leprechauns

Happy leprechauns are we,
helping friends and family.

Elves

This is what we do as elves,
think of others, not ourselves.

Gnomes

Here you see the laughing gnomes,
helping others in our home.

Sprites

Spritely sprites, we’re on our way,
play and laugh, and help today.

Brownie Opening Song

We’re the Brownies; Here’s our aim,
Lend a hand and play the game!

Tweenie Version

We’re the Tweenies, and we’ll try,
To be Brownies by and by.

It’s Not Hard

This song goes with a clapping game.

The first time you sing it, you clap your hands on your legs in rhythm.
The second time, alternate between clapping your hands on your legs and clapping your hands together.
The third time, clap your hands on your legs, clap your hands together, snap your fingers, and clap your hands on your legs again, then repeat.
The fourth time, clap your hands on your legs, then cross your arms and clap your hands on your legs again, then uncross them and clap your hands on your legs, then clap your hands together, then snap your fingers, then clap your hands together, and finally clap your hands on your legs again.

The idea is to get faster and faster at clapping each time you go through all four clapping patterns and increase the tempo of the singing.

It’s not hard,
I tell you so,
Just sing along,
And go like so.

It’s not hard,
I tell you so,
Just sing along,
And go like so.

Kookaburra

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
merry, merry king of the bush is he,
Laugh Kookaburra,
Laugh Kookaburra,
How gay your life must be,
Ha ha ha.

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree,
eating all the gumdrops he can see,
Stop Kookaburra,
Stop Kookaburra,
Save gumdrops for me,
Ha ha ha.

Brownie Closing

This song is sometimes sung at the end of the Brownie meetings as an alternative to (or with) Taps.

Now run along home,
And jump into bed,
say your prayers,
don’t cover your head.

The very last thing,
I say onto you;
You dream of me,
And I’ll dream of you.

The Squeeze

This song is usually sung at the end of a meeting. The girls cross their arms and link their pinkies together in a circle. Everyone closes their eyes except the leader, who starts the “squeeze.” When the girls start singing, the leader squeezes one of their pinkies, squeezing the pinkie of the person next to them. When someone’s pinkie is squeezed, they squeeze their other pinkie, passing it on to the next person, and around the circle. The leader keeps their eyes open to track the squeeze around the circle, and make sure it’s passed on.

The song is sung twice, and whoever has the squeeze at the end of the second singing has to do a good deed for the next week. The following week, that person shares what good deed they’ve done before the squeeze is started again.

There are two versions of this song, but both are very similar.

The Brownie Version:

The squeeze is going around,
The squeeze is going around,
We do our best to lend a hand,
The squeeze is going around.

The Guide Version:

The squeeze is going around,
The squeeze is going around,
We’ll do a good deed everyday,
The squeeze is going around.

A sparkle for my basket,
Sparks do it day by day,
To join the fun through work and play.

This song is sung while kneeling and pretending to be a squirrel, with your hands bent down like paws, and your arms folded in towards the chest. Other actions are listed in brackets (-).
